What children learn

First words, in context.

We start with greetings and grow outward from there — through themes children already know from daily life.

  1. 1Calm bonjour greeting song
  2. 2Brief review using familiar objects or picture cards
  3. 3Presentation of 3–5 new French words with concrete materials
  4. 4Child participation through pointing, matching, choosing, or repeating
  5. 5Movement, song, or simple game connected to the theme
  6. 6Short story, puppet interaction, or visual prompt
  7. 7Gentle au revoir closing song

Teaching methods

Hands-on, calm, and respectful of each child’s pace.

  • Hands-on objects from daily life — fruit, toy animals, color cards, picture cards
  • Short presentations with only a few new words at a time
  • Gentle repetition through listening, pointing, matching, choosing, and naming
  • Call-and-response used lightly, without ever forcing a child to perform
  • Songs, rhymes, and movement activities
  • Puppets, visual props, and story cards
  • Simple matching, sorting, and naming games
  • Theme-based vocabulary connected to the child’s real environment
  • Small-group moments and individual turns when appropriate
  • Respect for quiet observation — a child may point or choose long before speaking
“Children are introduced to French through concrete materials, songs, stories, movement, and gentle repetition. We invite participation through listening, pointing, choosing, matching, singing, and simple spoken words, while respecting each child’s pace.”
